30-year-old walks out on fiancé after he brings his Mom on romantic anniversary glamping trip: 'I planned and paid for the whole thing... He did not even ask me first'

• 'I booked a super fancy, expensive luxury cabin in the mountains. It had a private hot tub, a massive fireplace, and stunning views. It was supposed to be a high-end romantic break just for the two of us.'

  Sounds perfect! What could go wrong? 

  Well… after shelling out a lot of cash for the adventure, shopping for groceries and drinks, and packing the car, this woman was ready to go. As the weekend approached, though, the fiancé pulled into her driveway, and he had his Mom in the passenger seat! 

  Questions arise! This woman quickly asked her fiancé what was going on, to which he replied that ‘his mom was bored lately, so he invited her to come along to the luxury cabin for a relaxing family weekend.’

  Did he ask his fianceé if she was cool with the couples trip turning into a family trip? No, certainly not. 
   

• Interestingly, she describes the cabin as being "huge," and cabins — including those geodomes that people sometimes go glamping in — are usually pretty small. Even the large ones have 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, and probably one restroom. They're big enough to feel luxurious for a couple, but three's a crowd, even with plenty of room to have space alone. 

  This woman was not thrilled to see MIL sitting in the car, and I can only imagine how hard it would be to keep a straight face when faced with that. She was shocked, and in private, asked her fiancé ‘Are you serious? I spent a fortune on this for our anniversary.’

  MIL overheard that and burst into tears, as if she didn't know it was supposed to be a couple's trip. Worse still, her son sided with her, instead of his wife-to-be. Yikes! He got angry, called her ‘completely selfish,’ and even accused her of 'ruining the vibe,' which is a wild thing to say to someone who isn't a 3rd wheel.

• Next: ‘I did not even argue. I just grabbed my bags out of the trunk, walked back into my house, and locked the door. I cancelled the booking, luckily I got most of my money back minus a hefty cancellation fee and ignored his calls.’

  This is such a shame, because she could've pretended to cancel the booking, and then still embarked on that vacation by herself! What a missed opportunity! 

  In the aftermath of the driveway squabble, this woman is now being bombarded with texts from her fiancé's family, calling her "disrespectful" for the way she terminated the trip. But truly… she's got to get rid of the whole man (and his Mom, apparently). You shouldn't marry someone who doesn't respect you, or cherish you, and it's strange that their relationship got so far when this guy is clearly a major mama's boy.

• After all of that drama, she leaves us with this: 

  'My fiancé says you completely ruined our anniversary and owe his mom a massive apology for not letting her enjoy the luxury trip.

  I feel like I just stood up for myself and my hard earned money, but they are making me doubt it.'

  People didn't want her to let her fiancé get away with this kind of behavior. And in fact, some of them urged her to make him into an ex-fiancé instead!

  ‘NTJ. Luckily, this is just a “fiancé” and can become an “ex-fiancé” at the snap of two fingers.’

  This woman (Proud-Bonus-2620) replied: ‘Thanks... I’m honestly still in shock. 5 years is such a long time to just throw away but you are right. The disrespect of him not even asking me first is what hurts the most. Like I'm just a bank for his mom's luxury vacation. I'm really rethinking everything right now.'

  'The better thing to do would have been to leave them both in your driveway and go enjoy the cabin by yourself.

  You did the next best thing.

  Obviously he showed you that his mom will always come first. Whether or not you're OK with that is up to you.'

• Finally, one person noted that if she enjoys this type of treatment, the longer she remains engaged to this guy, the more of that same treatment she'll have to endure. Wouldn't it have been so much nicer if her fiancé had pulled up to get her with flowers in hand, her favorite food waiting for her, and maybe if he'd even planned the trip himself? He sounds selfish — and he certainly doesn't appreciate what he has! — and the relationship might not return to form after this major misstep.
